Television stations aren't the only ones going digital - license plates are too.

In 2007 the Idaho Transportation Department joined more than a dozen other states by changing to a more effective digital licence plate technology.

Experts say it's designed to reduce expenses and provide more color.

But the new license plates not only benefit drivers, it helps the Idaho Fish and Game as well.

Rex Sallabanks of the Idaho Fish and Game says, "We match every dollar from the sale of wildlife license plates with another dollar typically from federal sources so essentially we double the money and that's how we fund the program."

According to fish and game the elk plate is the highest selling specialty plate with purchases totaling more than 61,000 and about 82 percent are renewed each year.

Motorist won't have to replace their current elk wildlife plate until the seven year reissue requirements are met.
