UPDATE INFORMATION: Truck And Trailer Crash In Dry Canal Bed
UPDATE INFORMATION 12:37 PM: The Idaho State Police have issued a news release on the accident.
“On February 5, 2013, at approximately 3:30 am, Idaho State Police investigated an injury crash on Interstate 84 at milepost 195, just east of the Hazelton/Ridgeway Rd exit in Jerome County.
Ronald Morris, 64, of Bountiful, Utah, was driving west in a 2012 Freightliner tractor pulling a 1999 Great Dane trailer, hauling empty anhydrous ammonia cylinders. Morris drove off the roadway and came to a stop in an empty canal ditch, spilling diesel fuel.
Morris was transported by ground ambulance to St. Lukes's Magic Valley Medical Center in Twin Falls, ID. Morris was wearing his seatbelt.
Cleanup crews remain on scene. No roads are blocked at this time. The crash is under investigation by the Idaho State Police.”
Hazelton, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) - Idaho State Police are continuing their investigation into a one vehicle accident that occurred on I-84, westbound, near mile marker 195. Police say a truck and trailer came to rest in the dry bed of a Big Wood Canal near the freeway. At this time a HazMat crew is on the scene working to clean up the area involved. Other than diesel fuel, police are not saying if there were other chemicals involved or what the truck was hauling. Canal company officials from the Shoshone office, are on the scene surveying any damage to their property. The accident occurred at 3:32 am this morning and as of 9am two police officer units remained on the scene, according to the Idaho State Police Dispatch. The road is not blocked and there are no reports of any serious injuries. Police have not said what caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle.
