Alternative Forms Of Transportation

There is actually something positive that comes from higher gas prices - alternative ways of transportation.

Child Safe Transportation is a company that started last year providing services to families looking for help in taking kids to school, daycare and other services.

Jennifer Thornquest, Co-Owner of Child Safe Transportation says, "We make it cost-effective so that's less than what you would pay for fuel and we're also taking cars off the road."

Child Safe Transportation works with Safe Kids Coalition to make sure each child is in a proper booster or car seat.

One of the special services they offer is round-trip transportation for shared custody families.

They will transport children on the weekend to and from Boise - Pocatello and the Wood River Valley.

Rich Romero, Co-Owner of Child Safe Transportation says, "If a father for instance has to transport his children to Boise on Friday and that's about 125 miles, then back that's about 250 right there, if you car gets about 20 miles per gallon at 3.75 a gallon, that's about 50 dollars. We charge 35."

Another mode of transportation is The Trans IV Bus services that started back in 1979.

They provide rides to the public and the elderly with some discounted rides and free services. Like Child Safe the increase in gas prices may help their business.

Lynn Baird, Executive Director of Trans IV Buses, "It's increased our operating costs but it does provide out least an alternative for people to get a ride at a lower cost."
