Idaho Mine History

By S Casey

Mining and the Snake River Canyon are tied together in history of Twin Falls and today a local teacher shared his knowledge of the subject with the community.
This afternoon at the Twin Falls Historical museum - Ron James -- a teacher at CSI and Robert Stuart Junior High presented slides of photographs of the miners who lived in the area.
He says during the 1870s a majority of the miners were Chinese and they had found gold mainly in between the two major falls.
James says, "Mining is what really brought in the beginnings of permanent settlements in Idaho."
You can see artifacts that were excavated from a nearby site at an exhibit in the museum.
