Open Range Awareness

By S Casey

When a motorist gets in an accident involving livestock – the laws can be rather hazy.
That’s why the Wood River chapter of the Sober Riders hosted an open range awareness ride to inform everyone about the issue.
Officials say that while Idaho is an open range state – there is what's called a herd district where the livestock owner must pay the motorist for damages.
But they also say not everyone knows about the location of these areas.
Pony Boy says, "The problem is there are not enough signs to actually designate when you're riding and where you're driving in Idaho and since it an open range state; we feel there should be a lot more signs."
Sober Rider members advise you to contact your local congressman about the various laws and to also install additional signs.
