Area Roads In Twin Falls To Close For Repairs
Twin Falls, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) - The Twin Falls Street Department will be closing area streets and alleyways as contractors work to replace deteriorating culverts.
The City is replacing the culverts, which channel water underneath roadways, alleys and sidewalks, with more stable concrete lateral crossings after three culverts collapsed last year. City street workers imme-diately placed steel covers—also known as trench plates—over the broken crossings as a temporary so-lution until water could be shut off to the underlying water channels.
The first section to be replaced will be a segment between Harrison Street and Tyler Street on the north side of Addison Avenue. This will require the closure of the westbound lane on Addison Ave¬nue between Harrison and Van Buren, so City street workers can fix the alley approach.
The other two culverts are located south of Filer Avenue at Bracken Street, as well as the adjacent al¬ley. Both have deteriorated to the point of failure and are currently trench plated. The City of Twin Falls has contracted with PMF, Inc., a local contractor, to replace the old culverts at Bracken Street.
Workers are expected to begin construction on Feb. 18 and complete the culvert replacements in late-March. The City will begin the projects as soon as possible, so that the Twin Falls Canal Company can reintroduce water to the underlying water channels—that process generally takes place during early April.
Intersecting alleys will be temporarily closed during repairs. PSI Environmental Systems, which utilizes alleyways for garbage pick¬up, as well as other utility services have been notified of the closures. Work should be completed in one month.
