Declo, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) – Work is expected to begin this week to replace the 75-year-old bridge over the South Side Canal in Declo, the Idaho Transportation Department announced. During the two-month construction, drivers can expect minor delays on Idaho 81.
Crews will replace the 21-foot bridge and approaching roadway with a similar, but wider, precast concrete structure. The bridge was built in 1938.
The road will be reduced to one lane and controlled by a temporary traffic signal while half the bridge is replaced in the initial phase. After the first half is completed, crews will begin on the second half. A 35-mph speed limit and a 12-foot width restriction will be in effect during construction.
Work in the channel must be completed before irrigation water is released into the canal for the irrigation season, which is expected in early April. Crews will apply a concrete sealant before the project is completed in late April.
Western Construction Co. of Boise, is the contractor for the $432,000 project.
