BOISE, Idaho (AP) _ The federal government is sending more than
$1 million to Idaho to replace or modernize public housing.

The $1.1 million in capital improvement funding comes from the
U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The money will be
distributed to Idaho's 10 different public housing authorities,
including Twin Falls, Ada County, Boise, Buhl, Jerome and American
Falls.

Federal officials say more than 830 families live in public
housing across the state.

Jon Meyers, HUD Regional Director, says the money will be used
to upgrade existing units or replace those recently demolished to
help give families decent, safe and affordable housing.

The $1.1 million headed to Idaho this year is a 5.6 percent
increase from a year ago.
