Emergency Repair On I-84 Near Burley This Week
Burley, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) – The recent long stretch of above-90-degree days has done more than bring strain to many local citizens; it has also caused severe damage to a stretch of Interstate 84 near the Utah border. An emergency repair is expected to begin Tuesday, July 23 to remove and replace about five miles of roadway.
The Idaho Transportation Department said rutting and potholing will be repaired in the right lane of eastbound lanes of I-84 between the Juniper interchange and Juniper Rest Area, mileposts 264 to 269.
A seal coat in the same area is scheduled beginning in mid-August and the upcoming repairs must be completed prior to that work. The damaged asphalt will be removed and replaced this week. Work is expected to be completed by Saturday July 27.
State funding will be added to an existing project to pay for the repairs, estimated to be about $500,000. Western Construction Inc., of Boise, will perform the work.
Eastbound I-84 will be reduced to one lane throughout the work zone, and the Juniper Rest Area will be closed Tuesday through Thursday as work proceeds through the exit and entrance ramps.
