The Fire Season Has Begun

SHOHSONE- Twin Falls District Bureau of Land Management firefighters are working to mop-up and contain or control wildfires that began last night and this morning. Current status of fires is as follows:

ROCK CREEK FIRE- Sized at 162 acres, located approximately 10 miles south of Hansen. Reporting minimal interior smoke, four engines on scene. Estimated containment for 6:00 p.m. tonight.

HORSE HILL FIRE- Located south west of Juniper Butte in the remote Jarbidge desert, sized at 528 acres. Four engines and one water tender remain on scene. Estimated control at 6:00 p.m. tonight.

TROUT CREEK FIRE- Located along the Idaho, Utah, Nevada border. Resources include BLM and Sawtooth National Forest personnel and equipment. Remains at 40 acres, with four engines, one hand crew, two water tenders and one dozer on scene. Estimated containment is for 6:00 p.m. tonight, with control at 8:00 a.m. tomorrow.

RURAL ASSIST AT TRAPPER GRADE- Approximately 40 acres, located between Buhl and Hagerman. Wendell and Hagerman Rural Fire Departments, as well as a hand crew are on scene. Resources are trying to track land ownership of the fire area. Estimated containment at 8:00 p.m. tonight and control at 8:00 p.m. tomorrow.

DIETRICH BUTTE- The BLM responded to a fire report east of Shoshone this morning. The fire was ¼ of an acre and was suppressed by Dietrich Rural Fire Department. All resources have now left the scene.

Lightning maps are currently showing some strikes in the southern portion of the Twin Falls District, with possible rain in the forecast for this evening. Crews not currently on a fire will be at the ready for any new reports.
