Signal change coming at Burley’s Main and Overland intersection Wednesday

By Paul Johnson

BURLEY, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV) – Upgrades to the traffic signal at the intersection of Main Street and Overland Road will impact travel Wednesday Dec. 18, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.
Among the upgrades, crews will install a Flashing Yellow Arrow traffic signal for all four directions of the signal and adjust complete signal timing. When complete, the signal will align with timing upgrades throughout Burley to help traffic flow and improve travel time.
The signal will be turned off for much of Wednesday and flaggers will direct traffic. While crews are present, drivers can expect minor delays and alternating lane closures. Drivers are asked to use an alternate route if possible from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
These types of traffic signals are becoming commonplace throughout Idaho as a way of managing traffic more efficiently and safely at intersections.
The new signal has four phases:
1. Green arrow represents a protected turn, enabling motorists to turn left without
2. A flashing yellow arrow means drivers should proceed with caution and must yield to oncoming
traffic and pedestrians.
3. A solid yellow arrow warns the light is about to change to red.
4. Solid red arrows require motorists to stop, as they would at a solid red ball.
