FAA Awards Freedman Memorial Airport $18 Million

Hailey, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KSVT-TV ) - The Federal Aviation Administration has awarded the Freedman Memorial Airport in Hailey $18-million. The money is expected to cover part of a $34-million construction project. The FAA said this is Phase 2 of a three phase project to meet the runway safety area dimensional standards by December 31, 2015.
• Phase 2 includes:


o removal of the southern portion of existing Taxiway A, which is
currently located inside the required RSA ;


o relocation of the portion of parallel Taxiway B from
approximately mid-field to Runway 31 to allow for construction
of the required RSA;


o installation of associated taxiway edge lighting;


o construction of replacement connecting taxiways between Runway
13/31 and relocated parallel Taxiway B;


o grading of the required Runway Safety Area from approximately
mid-field to RW 31;


o relocation of two wind cones and weather reporting equipment to
accommodate construction of the required RSA;


o construction of associated utility relocations;


o construction of associated storm drainage modifications;


o reconstruction and reconfiguration of the existing cargo apron,
located on the north side of the existing Terminal Building,
for use as future commercial parking apron;


o acquisition of privately owned buildings inside the runway and
relocated Taxiway B object free areas;


o construction of earthwork for a relocated access taxilane for
replacement hangars;


o renovation and reconfiguration of the Terminal Building to
accommodate passenger access to the relocated commercial
parking apron on the north side of the building; and


o relocation of a new ARFF/SRE building to accommodate a
replacement de-conflict apron. (the de-conflict aprons allow
taxiing aircraft to pass each other)





• Following completion of Phase 2, the Runway 13/31 safety area will be
compliant from approximately mid-field to Runway 31.


• Phase 3 is planned for FY-2015 and will consist of:


o removal of the northern portion of existing Taxiway A, which is
currently located inside the required RSA ;


o relocation of the portion of parallel Taxiway B from
approximately mid-field to Runway 13 to allow for construction
of the required RSA;


o installation of associated taxiway edge lighting;


o construction of replacement connecting taxiways between Runway
13/31 and relocated parallel Taxiway B;


o grading of remaining Runway Safety Area from approximately
mid-field to RW 13;


o relocation of one wind cone to accommodate construction of the
required RSA;


o construction of associated utility relocations;


o construction of associated storm drainage modifications;


o construction of replacement Cargo Apron;


o construction of replacement de-conflict aprons; and


o remaining construction of the relocated access taxilane for
replacement hangars.





• Following completion of Phase 3, the Runway 13/31 safety area will
meet FAA Design Standards.
