At approximately seven fifty this morning Idaho State Police responded to the Jerome- Minidoka county line on eastbound interstate 84 for a one vehicle rollover crash.
Craig Walther from Puyallup, Washington was driving a Honda odyssey and died in the accident along with passenger Allison Vangieson from Saint Clair Shores - Michigan who was thrown from the vehicle.
Les Nye says, "We had a driver on interstate 84 that fell asleep while driving and just drifted off the side of the roadway and then as his tires got into the ground, it woke him up and pulled him back onto the road, and the overcorrected and caused the vehicle to role."
The other passengers including one adult and three children were transported to Minidoka memorial hospital.
All were treated and released.
Nye says that all but Allison were wearing their seatbelts.
He is not sure if she would have lived by wearing a seatbelt because the damage to that side of the vehicle was so severe.
Nye says, "It definitely would have increased her chances. Getting thrown out of the vehicle at that speed, you have a very slight chance of survival."
The right lane was closed for two and a half hours.
Troopers say that they were coming from Kent - Washington to go to a reunion in Salt Lake City.
They wanted to wait a few more miles before stopping to switch drivers.
Nye says,"This driver 30 minutes before the crash had stated he was getting sleepy, they decided they were going to make it onto Rupert before they stopped to switch drivers. They needed to stop right then."
