Highway Closure In Rupert For Railroad Crossing Work

By Paul Johnson

Rupert, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KSVT-TV ) – Traffic is being diverted as work to rebuild a railroad crossing. The closing affects a short section of Idaho 24. The crossing, which spans four tracks, is expected to reopen to traffic by Friday May 23.
The Eastern Idaho Railroad will be rebuilding the highway crossing at the junction of Idaho 24 and Idaho 25 in northeast Rupert. The roadway, also known as Eighth Street, will be closed between Meridian Road and Oneida Street. Crews will replace concrete panels to improve roadway smoothness.
Traffic will be detoured south of the intersection to the next railroad crossing at Sixth Street, and north on Scott Avenue. Drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes to ease the traffic impact.
