Twin Falls, Idaho (KMVT-TV) Is there a new standard of tipping?
According to the New York Post some waiters expect a standard tip of twenty–five percent.
Some New York City restaurants are even suggesting 30 percent as an option.
A recent study found that many waiters are now getting larger gratuities.
A Cornell professor examined 9,000 credit card receipts and found that more than a third of diners left tips greater than twenty percent.
We checked with people in our area to see what their thoughts are.
"20%, but I also feel tipping is based on service," said Tina Laguerra.
"Well, depending on your service it would go between fifteen and twenty percent," said Stephen O’Connor, Owner, O’Dunkens.
"My standard of tipping is 20% usually," said Lonnie Jesser.
Those we interviewed today said how much they tip depends on the quality of the service and the food.
