Two People Die After Attempting To Rescue Boy In Snake River
ELMORE COUNTY, Idaho (KBOI) -- A father and uncle dove into the Snake River after their 8-year-old son/ nephew fell in while fishing Saturday. Elmore County Sheriff's Office said when they got on scene, the two men disappeared under the water and were swept away in the current before rescue crews could save them.
Deputies said a bystander, Michael Felmeier of Mountain Home, watched the boy fall in and jumped into save him. Felmeier was able to grab the 8-year-old and bring him to safety.
After the men went under, several rescue crews were brought in to search for the them. An Elmore County Marine Deputy, a Marine Unit from the Owyhee County Sheriff’s Office, and the Ada County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team were all called to the Snake River. The Ada County Dive Team dove underwater to search for them, which Elmore and Owyhee County units searched the banks.
Both men were found by the Ada County Dive Team, but crews said they were unable to be resuscitated. Deputies said both men were pronounced dead at the scene.
Deputies with Elmore County Sheriff's Office identified the father and uncle as Jose Jorge Barroso-Alfaro and Martin Barroso-Alfaro of Mountain Home.
