Idaho 75 Speed Limit Increasing At South End Of Hailey
Hailey, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KSVT-TV ) – The speed limit will increase on a short section of Idaho 75 through the Fox Acres Drive signal beginning Thursday July 17.
The speed limit will increase to 35 mph for approximately one-quarter mile, beginning south of the Fox Acres traffic signal and extending to near Third Avenue South. The speed limit is currently 25 mph throughout the city of Hailey.
The speed limit is changing because of an engineering traffic study conducted in May. The study recommended implementing a 35-mph speed limit zone on the south end of town to provide a transition area between the 45-mph and 25-mph speed zones.
The study cited a low number of vehicle crashes and limited pedestrian impacts through the area of speed change.
“This speed limit change reflects how people are driving through the section and the fact that no pedestrians are present through the recommended 35-mph section,” said Bruce Christensen, ITD District Traffic Engineer. “The lack of pedestrian traffic and safe operation by drivers in this section of roadway has led to this increased speed limit.”
The Average Daily Traffic of this section ranges from 15,000 to 20,000 vehicles per day, with an increase in the summer months.
Drivers are reminded that the current speed limits remain in effect until the new signs have been installed.
