One Day Blood Test May Indicate Suicidal Tendencies

By Paul Johnson

Twin Falls, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KSVT-TV ) - A blood test may one day be used to tell whether a person is at risk for suicide.
In a study partially funded by the national institute of mental health..
Researchers analyzed genetic mutations in a gene known as "SKA 2."
They explained this gene is not only expressed in a part of the brain responsible for blocking negative thoughts and controlling impulsive behavior...
It is also essential for moving stress hormone receptors that suppress the release of "Cortisol" throughout the brain.
Study authors say chemical changes to this gene may help spur suicidal thoughts and behaviors.
