New Distribution Center In Burley

By Brittany Cooper

A new distribution center celebrated a Grand Opening this morning in Burley.
The center brings jobs to the area and helps the economy of the rural area.
Dot foods incorporated enjoyed a grand opening today in front of legislators - city and state representatives and others in the community.
Officials say the 148-thousand square foot facility was completed in July -consisting mostly of warehouse space.
Joe Little says, "We are the nation's largest grocery redistributors; we are in the grocery business obviously, we'll be servicing the northwest."
An interesting factor about the origin of the name of the company is that it is the nickname of the chairman of the board's mother - Dorothy.
Pat Tracy says, "We had a family of 8 children at the time soon to grow to 12 who was burdened with many of the chores as well as running the business while her husband Robert, was out really trying to get the business started."
In attendance was lieutenant Governor - Jim Risch.
He takes great interest in the grand opening of Dot Foods in Burley.
Jim Risch says, "While I was governor, we tried to get developing particularly in rural areas. This started on my watch so it's a great day to cut the ribbon and actually see success."
Officials say there was some competition over the location of the new distribution center.
The center is one of nine locations nationwide and started live operations three weeks ago.
Risch says, "We went head-to-head with the state of Oregon, the state really wanted this business but they really wanted this business, but look at what we got, they built it in Idaho."
Tracy says, "From the very moment we came to burley we shared with them not just our initial plan but really how the facility would look once it was billed out to capacity, so they would understand the infrastructure needs and the capacity needs that would be required to support the facility."
