Local Reservoir Nominated For A Big Honor

By Brittany Cooper

A local reservoir has been nominated for the national register of historic places.
Living in a busy world - we sometimes forget about the history that brought us to where we are today.
This morning the Twin Falls County Historical Preservation Commission presented a history of the Salmon Falls Dam and its importance to the community and beyond.
Shauna Robinson says, "As part of the Twin Falls County Preservation commission, we work with the state historic preservation offices, and our goal is to preserve and promote historic sites around the state and in particular, with Twin Falls County."
Dale Gray gave the presentation on the history of the Salmon Falls Dam.
He was contacted by Robinson to put together a nomination for the national register of historic places.
Dale Gray says, "I was provided with a lot of historical information and i added some of my own research. Then we completed a forum, took some pictures, described some features of the dam and analyzed the dam as to whether it was eligible for the register."
Construction of the salmon dam was completed in 1911.
On an average day - up to 450 workers from 14 nations worked on the project for about 2 dollars a day.
A.J. Wiley - an engineering master - according to gray -designed the structure.
The nomination for the register was accepted.
Gray says that locally tons of historical information gets lost - and many do not appreciate the value of our historic places.
The salmon tract supports the communities of Rogerson and Hollister almost one hundred years later.
