Trailing of the Sheep

By S Casey

The Trailing of the Sheep parade this year was much colder than last – but still filled with the same amount of spirit.
the parade features four local sheep ranching families, Basque dancers, Polish highlanders and musicians – just to name a few.
Linnea Collins, organizer says "Last year we focused on the Peruvian culture, this year is songs and stories of sheep herding. So we have all of our traditional dancers and musicians, we have sheep camps and still a variety of things happening around town today."
After the cultural dances and music – it finally came down to the sheep – representing a 100 year tradition.
Those involved with the parade say that this event is unique as it does not imitate other events.
But really ties in culture and history to the area.
Rik Palieri says "It's one of the most interesting and most authentic events in the United States."
