The bridge running across the Twin Falls main canal between Hansen and Murtaugh now has a new weight limit.

According to the Idaho Transportation Department, the weight limit is 27 tons for eight and ten-wheel vehicles and a 40-ton maximum weight limit for all other trucks.

The new weight limit at milepost 230-point-1 was developed after an inspection this month found the concrete bridge supports were beginning to weaken.

Officials say the bridge will see more frequent inspections until it's replaced, which is expected to happen this fall.

The bridge was built in 1933.
