Almost four years ago a housing community in Buhl saw their homes threatened by a wildfire.
In august of 2005 - homes within the Kanaka Rapids community were near victims of a wildfire.
But now they are a Firewise community, which is a multi-agency program geared to giving homeowners the responsibility of protecting their homes from wildfires.
They’ve learned about protecting their home ignition zone which is the area identified as 100 to 200 away from the home.
Lorraine Simonson says, "In 2005 there was a fire in kanaka rapids and it almost burnt down 116 homes. The homeowners are very excited about becoming a firewise community."
We will tell you more about becoming a firewise community and how to your protect your home from a wildfire tomorrow on the news at ten.
