The Twin Falls Sheriffs Department is investigating damage to an old Murtaugh cemetery.

According to Sheriff Tom Carter the cemetery is south of Murtaugh Lake about 2 miles. The area is known as Artesia; the sheriff says a farmer allegedly damaged parts of the cemetery.

Sheriff Carter says the incident is still under investigation and he says it will be up to the county prosecutor to determine if criminal charges will be filed.

Sheriff Carter says he believes there are about 12 resting spots and the latest head stone dates back to 1922.

He says the property belongs to the city of Murtagh. We will have more on this story as it develops.
