A Burley man facing multiple felonies appeared in a Cassia County Courtroom for his sentencing today.

Three months ago, 34 year old Chad Gray of Burley and his 29 year old wife Candice, were arrested on charges of felony injury to children, and misdemeanor cruelty to animals. Their children were age six, age two, and eight months old.

Cassia County Prosecutor Blaine Cannon said,
“A worker for Health and Welfare describes the situation where the entire home reeked of feces, urine, moldy food, garbage, etc. All the kitchen counters and sink were piled high with dirty dishes, garbage, rotting food and clutter.

Cannon says the arrest happened after Gray had been charged with two felony counts of prescription forgery, and two counts of prescription fraud, which would have totaled up to 14 years if they'd run concurrently.

Gray's defense attorney admitted that gray has a long term addiction to prescription drugs and methamphetamine.

Cannon says this is an example of people getting so involved in drug use, they neglect their children.

Fifth District Judge Michael Crabtree said, “If you put all these together, and look at 'em for all this conduct, you're looking at a seven year sentence, for which you would serve a minimum of two, and possibly more depending on the parole board.

Crabtree suspended the sentence and sent gray to complete a six month rider program, after which he'll appear before Crabtree again.
