Teacher accused of having sex with student, wants more time to consider plea bargain

A female high school teacher accused of having sex with a 16 year old boy last year was in court this week, and wants more time to consider a plea bargain offer.

Police say that the Bliss High School social studies teacher, 39 year old Anna Margaret Bettencourt of Wendell, had sex with a 16 year old male student twice during August and September of last year.

Bettencourt has been suspended with pay and could have faced a sentence of up to life in prison.

The prosecution has offered to drop one of two felony charges and will ask for a total of ten years in prison with three of those years fixed.

Her arraignment has been rescheduled for 3:30 pm on Monday, June 25th.
