Pacific Ethanol, which owns a large refinery in the Mini-Cassia area, has voluntarily filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy. The legal action is for the company's four ethanol production facilities in Burley, Boardman, Oregon, and Madera and Stockton, California.

Pacific Ethanol’s President Neil Koehler says the company is working with creditors to develop a plan that will allow continued operations. Its ethanol refinery in Burley has been closed since the first of the year.

Many community and civic leaders in the Mini-Cassia area are hopeful the facility will reopen despite the bankruptcy filing.
