By KMVT Staff

Idaho Department of Correction officials say two inmates who ran from the North Idaho Correctional nstitution in Cottonwood have been recaptured. Prison officials said the inmates _ Richard Daniel Nieves and Ben Westley Perez climbed over a security fence on Sunday evening. Local law enforcement agencies and prison officers tracked
the inmates and took them into custody after they were involved in an accident involving four-wheelers. Both inmates were evaluated at a local hospital, but their injuries were not considered life-threatening. Nieves was serving up to seven years for injury to a child in Blaine County and Perez was serving up to 10 years for burglary and other charges in Minidoka County. But the men were taking part in the retained jurisdiction program, and could have been released as soon as October.
