OAKLEY, ID (KMVT) High winds and smouldering cattle feed were a dangerous combination in Cassia County Wednesday afternoon.
According to reports one thousand one ton bales worth $300,000.00 was destroyed.

A week ago, the Oakley Fire Department responded to a fire at the Wybenga Dairy at 1300 South 900 West, roughly a dozen miles northwest of Oakley. They put out the fire in a farm truck.

But Oakley Fire Chief Harlo Clark says the fire in the cattle feed in the truck bed wasn’t completely extinguished. He says the fire smouldered for a week. Then winds gusting up to 50 miles an hour this afternoon picked up the feed, fanned the sparks into a blaze, and caught two small haystacks on fire.

The high speed winds blew the flaming hay into some larger haystacks and set fire to them. Fire fighters from four departments battled the blaze today, include Burley, Declo, and the West End Department from Paul.

Chief Clark says he expected to have the fires out to be home in time for supper tonight.
