Snake River Canyon Rim Trail

Twin Falls, ID

By Jay Michaels

Slowly but surely – the city of Twin Falls parks and recreation department has been piecing together segments of the Snake River canyon rim trail.

Earlier this week, the Twin Falls city council approved an easement to the Pillar Falls subdivision – near the corner of Pole Line road and Eastland drive north.

Twin Falls Director of Parks and Recreation Dennis Bowyer says, “They're going to dedicate some land, but part of the trail will also be on some easement. So this is another step in our puzzle of Canyon Rim trails. It's kind of a big step.”

Right now the canyon rim trail already exists from Shoshone falls west up Centennial trail to the canyon rim – with a large undeveloped gap – east of the section near the Perrine bridge

This will be section two, you might call it. Going to the development just directly east of Eastland, the preserve, that's section three. Going through the Evel Knievel jump site, section four, and we already have section five, the Centennial Trail.

Bowyer says because the economy is depressed right now – there's no new development going on. But he says once the economy rebounds – developers will begin working on the three remaining sections – which will result in a roughly three mile long trail along this part of the canyon rim.
