Friday, Twin Falls City Council members gave their unanimous go-ahead - for phase one of a widening project for one of the city's major arterial streets.

Under the project, which is set to begin late next winter, the four block stretch of Washington Street North between Shoup and Dubois avenues would be widened to five traffic lanes, with bike lanes and a landscaped median.

Jackie Fields, Twin Falls City Engineer, says, “I hope to have Washington Street Phase Three occur also at the same time that should be coming soon. That's the stretch of road between generally Filer and Pole Line Road.”

Fields says the Phase One Project wasn't on the state's ‘to-do’ list until 2012. Today's city council vote enables the mayor to sign an agreement to send the state $169,000, which is the city's contribution to the roughly $2 Million project.
