Idaho Senator Mike Crapo met this afternoon with officials from The US Bureau of Reclamation, Idaho Department of Water Resources, Bonneville Power Administration, as well as local farmers to talk about needed repairs to the spillway for Minidoka Dam.

The facility on the Snake River north-east of Rupert is one of the oldest irrigation and power producing projects in southern Idaho, having been built in the early 1900's.

Senator Crapo is seeking federal funding for a project that would rebuild the spillway and canal head gates at the facility.

Any failure with the spillway would jeopardize thousands of acres of irrigated farmland in the Magic Valley, and could cause tens of millions of dollars in losses.
