Suspect in weekend homicide now in custody

The suspect in a weekend homicide has been caught; according to the Cassia County Sheriff's Office, Gerry Salgado, 22, was taken into custody around noon by the Bigham County Sheriffs Office. He was wanted in connection with a homicide that occurred Saturday night.

According to cassia county deputies were called out after Estella Castro, 46, of Rupert called 911 saying she and her boyfriend had been assaulted.

When deputies arrived they found Liopoldo Amescua, 25 dead also of Rupert.

The female was flown to Pocatello with non-life threatening injuries.

The incident happened east of Burley in the Raft River area.

According to Cassia County Sheriff Randy Kidd, "They went out there to meet him is the information we got is they went out there to a prearranged meeting."

Cassia County Sheriff Randy Kidd says it’s unsure if a weapon was used in the assault. An autopsy is set for Tuesday to determine the cause of death.
