Fire N. of Jerome

By B. Cooper

Crews had their hands busy today as two fires broke out near Highway 93 in the Lincoln County Area.
This afternoon the Power Station Fire amassed about 1500 acres and the Substation Fire burned approximately 72 acres.
Barbara Bassler, Bureau of Land Management says "The fuels are very dry and we can still have fires this late in the season. We don't want to burn anyone landscape, recreation area out there."
Bassler says that the cause of the fire is still under investigation – but they're hinting it may be human caused as there hasn't been any lightning in the area.
Numerous resources from Jerome to Dietrich to Shoshone and more came to assist in the efforts and no structures were threatened – except for a possible haystack.
Bassler says "It was great we had people locally to get here quickly and get this take a day or two out hopefully."
Overall – it's been a mild season for fires here in southern Idaho – especially in comparison to years past.
Bassler says “We haven't had a lot of major fires and that's been great but these two fires show us that they are still fuel out there to burn and people need to be very careful."
As crews continue to investigate officials urge motorists to slow down and take caution.
