Chances are good that there's not any gold – silver – or any other valuable minerals buried on this roughly 600 acre property in eastern Jerome County east of Hazelton. One of the brothers who run the Crestview Calf Operation says there aren't any gravel deposits, but just lava rock.

Arlen Morgan, Crestview Calves Landowner says, “A number of years ago, I believe my father was trying to get financing, and the mineral rights were exchanged for financing that never came about.”

There have been two other property owners since then, and Jerome County has owned the mineral rights for more than 20 years. The Morgan brothers bought what used to be their father's property just a few years ago.

Mary Childers, Jerome County Treasurer says, “It's a housekeeping issue, as long as the mineral rights are not worth 25 dollars per acre or more. There was 578 point 01 acres involved in this.”

The missing mineral rights showed up as Childers was researching a new law that dealt with mineral rights owned by Idaho counties.

The Jerome County Commissioners voted unanimously to turn the rights over to the property's current owners.
