Halloween is an exciting time for kids of all ages. Because it falls on a Saturday, Twin Falls Police Department officials say, more people than usual will be out and about.
Officer Luke Allen said, "We have to prepare for a lot more people out and about, because it gives them an excuse to go out and party."
This also means an increase in vandalism and drunk driving. And Twin Falls Police say there is a big difference between a trick, and vandalism.
Allen said, "It becomes vandalism when you are destroying someone else's property. Even throwing eggs on people's cars and their houses, it's damaging the paint, causing them to clean it up, that could be construed as vandalism."
Police also want to push the need for safety on Halloween night.
Allen said, "It's really important that your kids don't go out alone. If you can't go out with them, send them with an older sibling, someone that can watch them. Stay in well–lit areas. Stay on the sidewalks, use crosswalks when you can, and beware of vehicles."
Drivers, as well as the children on the street, need to pay attention.
Allen said, "We'll have much increased foot traffic, so if you're driving, be aware of that.
A happy, haunted, and safe Halloween is what police officers here say they hope will happen.
