Cold Blast Hits Southern Idaho

A strong cold front brought big weather changes last night; some local areas had not just wind, but snow, as well.

Jackpot, Nevada, rivals Denver, Colorado for being a mile above sea level. That's roughly 15 hundred feet higher than Twin Falls, which explains why the latest cold front brought snow to this town just south of the Idaho/Nevada border.

Cactus Pete’s Spokeswoman Kris Ann Brown says, “No, this is fairly typical for this time of year for the Jackpot, northern Nevada area. And it's not unexpected.”

Winds gusting up to 60 miles an hour tore through southern Idaho Monday night, and put in a rather brisk appearance again. Sustained winds put these traffic signals in jackpot into motion and pasted leaves and seed pods to this chain link fence in Jerome.

The South Hills and Albion Mountain’s also saw snow, but Sun Valley didn't, at least not yet. This is the second time we've seen snow in our region this month.

Long time Magic Valley residents remember the occasional Halloween snow storm; but whether you like snow or not, it's a sure sign that winter isn't far away.
