Three weeks ago, Jerome voters narrowly turned down a 30 year lease for a new county jail. Tuesday, the Jerome County Commissioners met with Rocky Mountain Corrections, who gave their recommendations for what the commissioners should do next, in preparation for putting the measure on the upcoming primary ballot in May.

Rocky Mountain Corrections General Manager April Lee says, “We certainly heard from a lot of citizens after the vote how supportive they are of this. And you need to engage those folks who really understand it, who really do get the facts of how it would work.”

Lee also recommended that Rocky Mountain Corrections should continue their information program for the next six months, to the tune of $30,000.

The commissioners will read the proposal first, and decide if they can come up with the additional money to pay for the promotional effort.
