Countdown to new irrigation year

Twin Falls Canal Company officials have begun a countdown to the start of the new irrigation season, although right now it's uncertain when that will begin.

Canal Company Director Brian Olmstead said last year water was released into the canal system in early may, but weather conditions this year may force an earlier start, possibly sometime in mid-April.

The canal company's board of directors met Monday with Idaho Department of Water Resources officials to talk about the spring forecast, which currently calls for warmer and dryer conditions than normal.
