Distractions behind the wheel

Twin Falls

By Rachael Giffoni

While texting and driving is seen as dangerous, hundreds of thousands of people across the US do more than that behind the wheel, for a living.

Police officers, and paramedics, to name a few, often times have to navigate at high speeds through traffic - using dashboard computers, sophisticated radios, and navigation systems.

Staff Sergeant Dennis Pullin with the Twin Falls Police Department says, officers know the risks.

He said, "A lot of police cars have the laptop computers in them, which we receive dispatch calls through, we highly encourage all our officers to pull over to the side of the road before they start using those. Same with the cell phone use. We try to encourage everyone to pull over to the side of the road before using those, because it's a safety issue."

Earlier this week, the Senate passed a bill that would make it illegal to text and drive in Idaho.

Now, it's in the hands of the House and the Governor.
