Twin Falls, Idaho - 22 year old Gerry Salgado of Aberdeen faces seven charges, including first degree murder in the shooting death of a Rupert man last fall.
Prosecutors say that on September 19th of last year, Salgado shot and killed 25 year old Liopoldo Amezcua, beat 45 year old Estela Castro and stole her car; Salgado is also charged with aggravated battery - attempted murder - and grand theft.
Tuesday, one of the last meetings before his trial was held; a status conference will be held next week, but that may probably just be a phone call. At this point Salgado's trial is still set to begin on Monday, July 19th.
In other court news, a Twin Falls man accused of robbery opted out of a trial and instead entered a guilty plea Tuesday.
John Vernon Moore is charged with stealing beer and money from the Oasis Stop ‘N Go on West Addison, while allegedly using a gun to threaten the clerk.
Tuesday, in front of Judge Richard Bevan, he entered a plea of guilty for robbery.
According to police, things took a strange twist when Moore got into a taxi; the driver recognized him and took Moore back to the Oasis Stop 'N Go where police were still investigating the crime.
