UPDATE: Accident On I-84 Claims One Person

FINAL UPDATE 8:00 PM - Police have released the name of the man who died in an afternoon crash on Interstate 84.

Idaho State Police reports say 46–year old Rodolfo Del Fierro Herrera of Mexico died at the scene.

Police say the accident occurred near Milepost 173 heading westbound.

Herrera tried to change lanes and almost hit another car.

That's when he overcorrected and crashed.

Herrera was not wearing his seatbelt and was thrown from the vehicle.

The passenger, 38–year old Marco Navarro, was taken to Saint Luke's Magic Valley with minor injuries.


UPDATE 5:06 PM - Traffic is backed up from the freeway to Highway 25 junction. Motorists should consider alternate routes at this time.

UPDATE 5:03 PM - Jerome, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) - A man is dead following a one vehicle wreck on interstate 84.

An official with Idaho State Police says the accident occurred near milepost 173 heading westbound.

The driver of the vehicle tried to change lanes and almost hit another car.

That's when he overcorrected and crashed.

The driver and his passenger were both thrown from the vehicle.

Officials pronounced the driver dead at the scene.

The passenger was taken to Saint Luke's Magic Valley with minor injuries.

Traffic is still being diverted at this time.


UPDATE 4:40 PM - Westbound traffic is being diverted at Milepost 173.

UPDATE 4:30PM - We have received word that the driver of the vehicle died at the scene. Another person in the vehicle was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Unconfirmed reports say the passenger was ejected from the vehicle.

Jerome, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) - Police and Rescue crews have closed a portion of Westbound I-84 between Jerome and Twin Falls this afternoon following a one vehicle rollover. The accident is between the on-ramp of I-84 and milepost 172. The report of the accident came in around 4 pm this afternoon. At this time it’s an unconfirmed injury accident. On scene reports indicate the right side or the slow lane is where the vehicle came to a stop but traffic is backed up for both lanes of travel. If you are traveling in that area, consider an alternate route. Idaho’s First News has a crew on scene and will have the latest as it becomes available.
