RUPERT, ID (KMVT) A night out with friends that went horribly wrong shows that alcohol and guns don't mix.

Just after midnight on December 17th, a Minidoka County Sheriff's deputy found Michael Kenneth Blair, 21, of Burley inside a pickup truck at 245 South 500 West. Blair had died after being shot with a 9mm handgun.

Hours later police arrested 24 year old Michael Jared Thompson, 24, also of Burley. Thompson was charged with second degree murder.

A witness said the two men and two women in the vehicle had been drinking at the Mustang Sally Bar in Paul. She said Thompson cocked the pistol while he was driving and pointed it backward over his shoulder. The witness also said then Blair put the gun in his mouth, and the gun went off.

That same witness said this accident never would have happened if alcohol hadn't been involved.

Magistrate Judge Rick Bollar didn't find enough evidence to send Thompson to District Court. The prosecutor filed another case against Thompson on the charge of involuntary manslaughter, and he'll be arraigned in court on Thursday, January 12th.
