Aqua Zumba Making A Splash

Twin Falls, Idaho (KMVT-TV) The Twin Falls YMCA is making waves with a new summer fitness class.

It's called Aqua Zumba.

Aqua Zumba, also known as the Zumba pool party is making a splash at the Twin Falls YMCA.

"Aqua Zumba is just another form of aquatic exercise. Basically you'll get all the benefits, the excitement, the fun, of a Zumba class," said Jeaneth Glenn, Aqua Zumba Instructor, Twin Falls YMCA.

Aqua Zumba takes the Zumba philosophy and traditional water aerobics disciplines, and blends it all together.

"In the water you have the resistance of the water all around you, so you're working your cardiovascular endurance, your muscular strength, and of course your flexibility," said Glenn.

Aqua Zumba moves the party to the pool. It's like other Zumba classes in that it's designed for most ages and both genders, but it does have some additional benefits.

"You have the buoyancy of the water that supports your entire body, so it's basically zero impact," said Glenn.

The class is ideal for people who are pregnant, obese, who have joint problems, or just want a good cardiovascular workout.

Kristie Hyde has been doing various water aerobics for years.

"I can't do half the stuff on the dry land that I can do in the water. I'm not fit enough. So, it's way easier to be in the water and do the moves," said Kristie Hyde, Aqua Zumba participant.

Hyde has lost forty pounds in the last four years and was more than happy to add one more water fitness class to her line up.

"In water aerobics you do a lot of toning and stretching, but with the water Zumba we're moving all the time," said Hyde.

She says there's one thing that sets Aqua Zumba a part from other water aerobics classes.

"The music for one thing. It just keeps you moving faster I think," said Hyde.

It's just one more way to party yourself into shape.
