Twin Falls, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KSVT-TV ) The annual Beat the Heat 5k is just around the corner.
During the event, the community can meet area police officers and raise money for Special Olympics.
About 100 competitors took part in the Twin Falls event last year.
Fifty of them beat the heat, meaning they finished before the police chief.
Those who accomplish that feat earn a Twin Falls Police Department challenge coin.
"Last year what I really liked about the event was meeting some of the Special Olympics athletes. They came out and met some of the people who were competing in the race and visiting with us, and they actually ran one of our water stations," says Capt. Anthony Barnhart, Twin Falls Police Department.
The event will be held next weekend and registration is 30 dollars through Thursday.
But if you register after Thursday, you'll have to pay a 5 dollar late fee.
