Behind The Scenes With The Blue Angels

Twin Falls, Idaho (KMVT-TV) The last time the Blue Angels came to Twin Falls was four years ago. This week the excitement has been building toward the air show this weekend.

The Blue Angels are just some of the performers featured at this weekend's Air Magic Valley show at Joslin Field south of Twin Falls. One pilot says there's a lot more to the Blue Angels than just flying.

Lt. Dave Tickle says, "It's the opportunity to interact with the crowd, to be able to showcase the pride and professionalism of the Navy and the Marine Corps, and showcase exactly what it is America's men and women are doing on a daily basis."

Tickle says there are more than half a million men and women serving in the United States Navy and Marine Corps. He says there are also plenty of people behind the scenes who make sure the F/A-18 Hornet jet planes operate the way they're supposed to.

Bryan Hamilton, Life Support Crew Member, says, "I think everybody on the team contributes to the effort. It takes us all to make this show one of the greatest shows in the world. So everybody does a great job, and mine's just a small part, keeping the jets up."

Tickle says being part of the Blue Angels is a volunteer assignment. He says they're able to handpick the best and brightest sailors and Marines from the fleet to represent everyone else who's serving right now. Tickle says the people who come to see the show are important, too.

Tickle says, "There are so many performers that are going to be out here. The show starts early in the morning around 10:45, and we don't fly until 3:00 o'clock. So there's a lot of performers that make up the air show, and we're just one small portion of it."

The Blue Angels will perform at 3:00 p.m. this Saturday and Sunday at Magic Valley Regional Airport. For tickets, visit airmagicvalley.org .
