Benefits and Downfalls of Cosmetic Surgery
Twin Falls, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) With many people trying to look young and fix imperfections... Cosmetic procedures are more popular.
But changing what you don't like about yourself may not be the best answer.
"If you are chasing after perfection and it's not obtainable then you're never going to be happy. You'll always be chasing after something you can't have," says Janice Hendrix, Counselor/Therapist.
Janice Hendrix is a counselor and therapist in Twin Falls.
She doesn't believe extreme changes to your appearance are necessarily a bad thing... Just that any procedures should be seriously considered.
"I'm not here to say whether or not having cosmetic surgery is right or wrong.. what I'm saying is: What's the motivation behind the plastic surgery?"
The popularity of cosmetic procedures has increasingly grown over the last couple decades.
"We see these perfect models, the skinny models, the ones that don't have any wrinkles and their hair is always perfect and somehow we think we're supposed to look like that.
Many people will get procedures done for beauty, but that's not always the case.
"What Botox is associated with is the cosmetic industry, the beauty industry. We'll use it to soften lines in the face. That's what we call an off–label use of Botox. But what you can use it for, more of an on–label use, is migraines, excessive sweating."
Sometimes, changing one's appearance is more invasive.
"Probably the most common things in our area are breast surgery and tummy surgery."
Plastic surgery can range from $3,000 for liposuction... And can go up to more than $12,000 for a tummy tuck.
"It seems that patients come in with a specific issue they don't like and we address that...and for a lot of people, that's all they want done."
If you are considering getting plastic surgery, you should know all funds are required up front.
Before getting any procedures done, it is highly suggested you research the benefits and potential downfalls.
