Jackpot, Nevada (KMVT-TV) - A Jackpot hotel is celebrating a big renovation project.

It's all a way to encourage more people to visit the area.

Cactus Petes Resort Casino has a rich history that extends more than five decades.

"We come down to have fun,” said Linda Van Slyke, Boise.

Linda Van Slyke and her friends from Boise are like the many that come to Jackpot , Nevada for a good time.

But, now there's another huge draw, the rooms.

"It offers something that nothing else in the area has. It is a simple hour drive from Twin Falls and it makes it convenient to go and enjoy a relaxing room and have a good time,” said Jackie Florent, Celebrating Friend’s Birthday.

"Jackpot and Cactus Petes isn't just the same old thing it's always been. It represents a great step forward. Always updating. If you haven't been here for awhile, it's time to try again,” said Andy Hamblen, Senior VP/General Manager, Cactus Petes.

The hotel now offers four spa suites. It's a part of their plan to bring more people to the area.

"The Granite Range was built in 1982 and we haven't done a major renovation since then. We updated carpets and fixtures, but this is the first total renovation since 1982,” said Hamblen.

The total cost for renovations: $7 million.

Money that Hamblen said is worth the investment.

"We have leveled off over the last few years and business has picked back up. And that's why we timed the renovation now,” said Hamblen.

With future planned room renovations in 2014, many like Van Slyke, have more of a reason to visit the area.

89 rooms were renovated, 79 of them regular rooms and 10 suites.

The rooms officially opened for visitors on August 3.
