Hailey, Idaho (KMVT-TV) A new recycling program is in the works for Blaine County.

"I think Blaine County is a very environmental conscious it's extremely important to the residents” said Charlene Nelson, County Operations Director, Blaine County.

18-months ago Blaine County took over the solid waste district recycling program.

With the transition the county decided they wanted to make changes and appointed a recycling committee.

The committee has met over the past 9-months and evaluated three major factors for citizens.

"Environmental responsibility, physically stain ability, and convenience for residents” said Charlene Nelson, County Operations Director, Blaine County.

The proposal will bring a slight decrease in revenue for the county.

"The recommendation we are bringing forward to the board would be four actually three bins at the curbside that would include all fiber so we would be putting together magazines, newsprint, and mixed papers which is currently separated out. We would have plastic in a second bin, and in a third bin would be aluminum and food cans” said Charlene Nelson, County Operations Director, Blaine County.

With the new proposal residents will be reducing the number of containers from six down to three.

Glass would also be removed from the curbside due to safety issues and would need to be disposed at a drop off center along with cardboard.

"Residents can put their recycles in three bins out in front of their homes. All of the fibers mixed together, all the plastics in one and all of the tin aluminum in the other” said Charlene Nelson, County Operations Director, Blaine County.

If Blaine County approves the new program residents could see a more environmental community by October 1, 2012.
