Blaine County School District Forms Safety Task Force
Hailey, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) The Blaine County School District recently sought six people from the community to sit on a new safety and security task force
School safety and security are top priorities for the Blaine County School District. With safety plans already in place, the district is organizing a task force to review them once again.
"We will be reviewing our existing security and safety plans which are part of goal 8 of our strategic plan which was put together by the community a few years ago," said Heather Crocker, Communication Director for the Blaine County School District.
The school district hopes the task force will help reevaluate the plan and make safety at the schools even better.
"You know the goal is really to look at our strategic plan and to see if there are any other ideas that we haven't considered in making our schools the safest places they can be," Heather Crocker told us.
The district has already been reinforcing safety measures at their schools. As part of the safety plan here at the Elementary school, if you show up at the school and you don't go to the main doors, you'll find that the doors are locked."
"Things that we have done for instance at Hailey Elementary is we have new key cards for all of the doors. So we're not using traditional keys anymore. We're actually using key cards which keep us up to date with the staff who come and go," said Heather Crocker.
New cameras are installed at Hailey Elementary along with controlled entry point doors at the middle school and high school. The district also relies heavily on local law enforcement.
"We have great partnerships with local law enforcement and a lot of support from our cities and county. Those people will be serving on the task force and it will also involve groups like our drug coalition because that's an important part of talking about safety and security as well," stated Heather Crocker.
A school district committed to keeping our children safe.
